Dismal Swamp artworks removed and damaged as Tasmanian region waits for federal funding

A former Dismal Swamp employee says she is shocked to see the extent of damage to the former tourist destination. The site, established in a natural sinkhole surrounded by Blackwood forest, closed in 2019. It once featured a 110-metre slide, as well boardwalks, sculptures and artworks from local artists, but the site has been extensively damaged. The federal government says it’s working to deliver $12.5 million to help revitalise the site, nearly two years on from when the money was promised.
